Current Sermon Series

King Jesus - Colossians

The book of Colossians reminds us of the supremacy of Christ and our new identity in Him—a reality that shapes how we live every day. Written by Paul during one of his imprisonments, this letter calls the church in Colossae (and us today) to renewed love for Jesus as King and to live out our faith in practical ways.

As we come out of the Wilderness series, this is a timely reminder to grow in maturity and to “seek first” our new life in Jesus. Each week we’ll explore what it means to live under the reign of King Jesus—in our hearts, our homes, and our world.

Jesus is King | Michelle Stevens

Scripture Reading

Colossians 1

Questions

  1. The Colossians were known for their faith, love, and hope (vv. 3–8). If someone described your life or your family, what would they say you are “most likely to” be known for?

  2. Paul reminds the Colossians that Jesus is supreme, above all else (vv. 15–20). In what ways do we sometimes let other things compete with Jesus’ place in our lives?

  3. Verse 15 says Jesus is the “image of the invisible God.” How does Jesus help us understand what God is truly like?

  4. Paul describes Jesus as the one who “holds all things together” (v. 17). What difference does it make in your daily life to know that Jesus sustains the universe and sustains you?

  5. The sermon reminded us that there is a difference between knowing about Jesus and truly knowing Him. What practices or experiences have helped you move from head knowledge to heart knowledge of Jesus?

  6. If we are known by who we know, as the Colossians were, how can we as individuals and as a church reflect that we know King Jesus in our words, actions, and reputation?

  7. What’s one step you can take this week to follow Jesus as your King?

Scripture Reading

Colossians 2

Questions

  1. Paul warns the Colossians against being deceived by “fine-sounding arguments” (Colossians 2:4). What are some examples of “hollow and deceptive philosophies” in today’s culture that Christians may be tempted to believe, and how can we guard against them?

  2. Verses 13–14 describe the transformation from being “dead in sins” to being “alive with Christ.” What does this passage teach us about the seriousness of sin and the completeness of forgiveness in Jesus?

  3. Paul urges believers to be “built up in Christ, strengthened in the faith, and overflowing with thankfulness” (Colossians 2:6–7). Which of these three (built up, strengthened, overflowing) feels most present in your life right now, and which do you sense you need to grow in?

  4. NT Wright compares Christianity to riding a bike—if we stop moving forward, we fall off. What practices or rhythms help you keep “pedaling” in your faith, and what makes it easy to stall or lose momentum?

Study 3

The King's Game Plan | Michelle Stevens

Scripture Reading

Colossians 4:2-18

Questions

  1. Paul calls us to “devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful” (Col 4:2). What does it look like for you to be truly devoted to prayer? Where do you need to be more watchful or more thankful in your walk with Jesus?

  2. Epaphras is described as “wrestling in prayer” for others (Col 4:12). Who in your life might God be calling you to wrestle in prayer for right now?

  3. Paul urges us to pray for open doors and then make the most of every opportunity (Col 4:3–5). Can you share a recent opportunity you’ve had to talk about Jesus? How can we become more ready for these moments?

  4. Verse 6 challenges us to have conversations full of grace and seasoned with salt. How can we be both gracious and “salty” (life-giving, interesting, engaging) when we share Jesus with others?

  5. The sermon highlighted that proclaiming Jesus requires both knowing Him personally and speaking wisely, kindly, and authentically. How are you growing in your personal knowledge of Jesus so that you have something real to share?

  6. Paul ends by reminding the Colossians they are part of a team—not spectators but co-workers in the gospel. How does knowing we are “on the same team” encourage you in living for King Jesus? What role do you think God has placed you to play in the team?
