Peter's Journey - Real Faith, Real Struggles

Join us as we journey through the life of Peter — an ordinary fisherman transformed by the call of Jesus. Passionate, impulsive, loyal, and deeply flawed, Peter’s story is a powerful reminder that God sees beyond our mistakes and calls us into something greater.

In this series, we’ll explore how God’s grace, second chances, and Spirit-empowered purpose can shape our own lives too. Whether you're exploring faith or walking with Jesus for years, Peter’s story invites us all to follow more boldly, love more deeply, and live more fully for God.

Study 1

Peter's Journey: Faith Over Fear | Mark Wallis

Scripture Reading

- Matthew 14:22-33

- John 6:1-21

- Mark 10:45-56

- Job 9:8

- Psalm 107:29

Questions

  1. Jesus Sends Us into Storms - Jesus sends his disciples into a storm. Why do you think he did it? How do we reconcile the idea that Jesus loves us with the fact that he does not always protect us from storms?

  2. God's Timing Versus Ours - Jesus came to his disciples at the right time rather than when they would have preferred. How might knowing that Jesus will come into our situation at the right time help us in our storm? Was there a time when you were in a storm and only realised afterward that Jesus was there working all along?

  3. Follow the Rabbi - Peter assumed that if his Rabbi was walking on water, he should too. Why is this an important lesson for us even in the midst of our storms? How have you followed Jesus' example during challenging times? What difference did it make?

  4. Faith to Move - Peter steps out of the boat despite being faced with a terrifying situation. What do you think he saw in Jesus that filled him with a faith that drove away the fear? Reflect on a time when Jesus showed you something about himself that gave you faith to move. Spend some time thanking him for it.

  5. Faith to Remain - Peter runs out of faith and begins to doubt, but knows who to reach out to. Why does doubt have such a big impact on our experience in a storm? What choices/habits have you found useful in keeping focussed on Jesus during challenging times?

  6. A Bigger View of Jesus - Peter and the other disciples end up moving from "Jesus as Teacher" to "Jesus as God". How has Jesus shown you more of who he is in the middle of a storm? Tell someone the story of what he showed you and the difference it has made in your life.

  3. What does building a daily relationship with Jesus look like for you right now?

  4. What is one small step you feel God is inviting you to take today to deepen your relationship with Him?

  5. How does a transactional relationship with God differ from a transformational one?

  6. What does a routine faith life look like compared to a relational one?

Study 3

Peter's Journey: Restoration | Mike Stevens

Scripture Reading

John 21

Questions

  1. When have you experienced failure or regret like Peter?

How did you deal with it?

What would it look like for Jesus to meet you in that space like He did with Peter?

  2. Why do you think Peter returned to fishing after Jesus’ resurrection?

What does this tell us about human nature and our default responses in times of uncertainty?

  3. What stands out to you about Jesus’ approach in restoring Peter?

How does Jesus’ gentle but direct method shape your view of how God deals with our failures?

  4. Jesus asked Peter, “Do you love me?” three times.

If Jesus asked you that today, what would your honest answer be?

What might He be calling you to do in response?

  5. Peter’s restoration led to a new purpose—serving as a shepherd.

What role might God be restoring you for right now?

Is there a “next step” in faith, service, or obedience He is nudging you toward?
