Your Kingdom Come

Prayer is more than words—it’s a way of life. In our new series, Your Kingdom Come, we’re diving deep into what it means to seek God first through an active and intimate prayer life. Using Jesus' teaching on prayer and fasting (Matthew 6:5-18) and Paul’s prayers for the church (Ephesians 3:14-21, Philippians 1), we’ll explore how to speak and listen to God, pray for His Kingdom to come, and let our love abound more and more.

Let’s seek Him first and see what He does in and through us.

Study 1

Your Kingdom Come - Prayer and Fasting | Ashlee Jackson

Scripture Reading

Matthew 6

Questions

  1. Can you think of a time in your life where you’ve been motivated to practice a habit by “outside” rewards rather than “inside” transformation? How did that impact your long-term commitment to the habit?

  2. Read Matthew 6:1-8, and 16-18. What do these passages tell us about God? What do they tell us about people?

  3. Jesus challenges us to check our motives when we pray and fast. If you’re being honest, what has been your main motivation for these spiritual practices? Have you ever fallen into the trap of seeking approval or recognition from others?

  4. The Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13) provides a framework for prayer. Which part of the prayer—coming to the Father, worship, trusting God’s will, asking for needs, confession, forgiving others, or asking for protection—do you tend to focus on most in your prayer life? Which part do you often neglect?

  5. How can you use the Lord’s Prayer as a framework for your personal prayer life?

  6. As a church, we are being invited to participate in a corporate fast. What are some things you could give up for two weeks in order to refocus on seeking God?

Study 2

Your Kingdom Come - Paul's Prayer | Mike Stevens

Scripture Reading

Ephesians 3

Questions

  1. Success in God's Eyes – The sermon begins by asking what it means to be successful in God's eyes, with Billy Graham emphasising the importance of prayer. How does your understanding of success compare to this perspective? How can you cultivate a lifestyle of prayer in your daily life?

  2. Lessons from the Majority World Church – The sermon highlights how persistent prayer, poverty, and persecution (3 P's) have contributed to church growth in nations like Nepal, Brazil, and India. In contrast, Western societies have experienced spiritual decline. What can we learn from these global examples, and how might we apply them in our own spiritual communities?

  3. Paul’s Prayer in Ephesians 3:14-19 – Paul prays that believers will be strengthened, rooted in love, and filled with the fullness of God. How do you see these three elements (strengthened, loved, and filled) playing a role in your spiritual growth? Which of these do you feel you need more of in your life right now?

  4. Reordering Our Loves – Tim Keller describes prayer as "the reordering of our loves." What are some distractions or misplaced priorities that may be keeping you from fully seeking God first? How can intentional prayer help realign your heart with God’s will?

  5. God’s Power at Work Within Us – The sermon closes with Ephesians 3:20-21, which speaks of God’s ability to do "immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine." Where in your life do you need to trust that God has more for you? How can you step out in faith to experience His power more fully?
